After last week’s wintry weather, all snow and ice now seems to be gone. In some places, a certain ‘snow fog’ has formed when the snow melts. What exactly is that and how does it arise?

Weather woman Grieta Spannenburg explains that it arose because the cold in recent days gave way to warmer, milder air. “When snow and ice retain a lot of moisture and melt, vapor is released,” says Spannenburg.

The vapor that is released usually does not hang more than a few meters above the ground, Spannenburg explains.

The snow fog that forms is not without danger, according to the weather woman. “It can come on suddenly, so people can be surprised by it.”
