Kit Harington reacts angrily to “Game of Thrones” remake requests.
Kit Harington recently spoke out about negative reviews from fans about the final season of “Game of Thrones.” Some fans even started a petition to request a new version of the final season. The main actor in the interview: “That really upset me.”
Harington vs. Social Media
In a conversation with the New York Times, the Jon Snow actor was harsh on the series fans. He also didn’t like the petition that people started because they were unhappy with the series finale. He explained this in the interview: “A level of idiocy that can only arise through social media.”
He also pointed out the effort of the series authors and then said: “How dare you?”
Fans were particularly unhappy with showrunners David Benioff and DB Weiss’ decisions regarding the conclusion of the main storylines of Game of Thrones. For example, with the 360-degree turn from Daenerys Targaryen to despot, who was then killed by Kit Harington’s character Jon Snow. The finale is obviously considered one of the worst in television history and left fans worldwide furious.
In 2019, HBO boss commented on the calls for a remake: “The petition shows great enthusiasm and passion for the series, but we haven’t seriously considered it. I can’t imagine any other network would do that.”
Reactions from other “Game of Thrones” stars
Other main actors from the HBO hit series also commented on the finale in the past. Both Peter Dinklage and Maisie Williams are on Kit Harington’s side and defending the eighth season.
In September 2024, Dinklage said in the US “Rolling Stone”: “I like the finale! Nobody has to agree with that. If I said, ‘Yes, I agree with you – I hate the finale. Wasn’t the last season just terrible?’ In my opinion, that would sit far worse than saying I love it – which I really do.”
Arya Stark actress Maisie Williams also raved about the conclusion of the series in an interview with Jimmy Kimmel in 2021: “I was so happy with my ending. It was a beautiful end to a decade of my life. I honestly couldn’t be happier about it.”
Charles Dance, who played Tywin Lannister in the series and died in the fourth season, told Popculture in 2018 that he had signed a petition for a remake and called the finale “disappointing.”
