Jim (Cillian Murphy) is the much-loved hero of Danny Boyle’s equally beloved 2002 film “28 Days Later.” When Boyle announced his sequel “28 Years Later” for 2025, hopes were high that he would see Jim again. However, when Boyle and his writer Alex Garland announced that Murphy would not be joining the cast, disappointment followed.
Instead, fans thought they spotted Murphy in the trailer – as an emaciated undead who bears a certain resemblance to the slim Irishman.
Cillian Murphy is said to have actually been spotted filming the sequel “28 Years Later: Bone Temple”.
Is Cillian Murphy in 28 Years Later: Bone Temple?
Spoiler section!
Yes. Jim is actually seen – at the end of the film. “He’s gotten old!”, one might say. But now: After all, decades have passed and Cillian Murphy is now 49 years old. Jim still lives in his country house. He teaches a girl who could be his and Selena’s (Naomi Harris) daughter – will Naomi Harris appear in a possible third part?
Jim teaches the girl, who is hunched over her exercise books, principles of forgiveness and starting over after defeat. He tells of the Weimar Republic and the Nazis, who were supposed to be resocialized by the victorious powers after their defeat in the Second World War. “It wasn’t about destroying them economically, but destroying their ideology.”
Perhaps this is an analogy to life in a world now populated by zombies. It is their “ideology” – the madness of the rage virus – that needs to be eliminated, not their existence.

Then Jim and the girl hear screams from outside. They grab their rifles and rush to the slope. They see mutants chasing a woman and a boy. “Should we help them?” asks the girl. “Of course,” says Jim.
That’s how Jim is. A good guy. Welcome back.
