A 34-year-old man went on a rampage in the west of the province on Monday morning. He tried to steal a car five times, switching from one stolen vehicle to another. He got into trouble several times with the owners of the cars. The man fled with an ANWB vehicle and later even with a police car.

The man turned up on Monday morning at a defense site at Gilze-Rijen air base. There he enters the forbidden area and takes photos of the surroundings. Security guards immediately speak to him and instruct him to leave.

He does that too. He leaves the car with which he entered the site behind and continues on foot. A little further on, he tries to pull a woman out of her car to steal the vehicle, but fails. Shortly afterwards he manages to capture an ANWB vehicle and runs off towards Dongen.

Dangerous chase
Officers quickly spot the stolen car and give chase. The man drives at high speed, uses cycle paths and exhibits dangerous driving behavior. To limit the risks, officers decide to let the man go and keep an eye on him with an inconspicuous police car.

Later, the police try to stop the man at a traffic light on the Nieuwe Kadijk in Breda-Noord where he waits. But that also fails. The suspect rams the ANWB vehicle into a police car and manages to escape again.

Fighting with owners
He flees further. At the NAC stadium he tries to ditch the ANWB vehicle and steal another car. He becomes involved in a fight with the owner of that car.

Officers see what happened and intervene, they want to help the victim. But the man sees his chance and manages to escape by getting into a police car and driving away. He heads towards Etten-Leur in the police car at full speed.

There the man attempts to steal a car for the fifth time that morning. He again targets a car with someone in it at that moment.

There is another struggle with the owner, but now officers manage to arrest the 34-year-old man. The suspect from Breda is in custody for further investigation.
