FC Bayern will have to do without defender Josip Stanišić for the time being. The defender was injured against Wolfsburg.
The start of the new year went perfectly for FC Bayern from a purely sporting perspective: on Sunday the Munich team rolled past VfL Wolfsburg 8-1. But there is also a downside: Josip Stanišić was injured.
As the record champions announced on Monday afternoon, the German-Croatian defensive player suffered a capsular ligament injury. This was revealed by an examination by the medical department at the beginning of the week. Bayern did not provide any information about the specific downtime. It simply means that FCB will have to do without Stanišić “for the time being”.
Against VfL Wolfsburg, the Munich home-grown player started as a left-back, but after Dayot Upamecano was substituted he was moved to central defense. In this role, he twisted his ankle in stoppage time and limped off the field.
The 25-year-old has already struggled with several injuries in his young career. At the start of this season, Stanišić was out for almost a month due to an medial ligament injury. In previous years, knee problems in particular kept him out of action for long periods of time. In total, he has already missed 112 games due to injury over the course of his professional career.
The German-Croatian is not the only one missing at FC Bayern at the moment. At the weekend, Min-Jae Kim was out with thigh problems, Joshua Kimmich was plagued by ankle problems. Alphonso Davies and Sacha Boey were also missing due to illness.
On Wednesday evening, FC Bayern continues in the Bundesliga with an away game at 1. FC Köln. Despite the failures, coach Vincent Kompany has several options available for the defensive line. Hiroki Itō has recently been slowly introduced again, and Tom Bischof has also recommended himself as an alternative for the left-back position.
