France’s tennis favorite Loïs Boisson has canceled her participation in the Australian Open 2026 at short notice. In a post on social media, she explains her reasons for this decision.
When the Australian Open starts in the coming days, France’s currently best tennis player Lïos Boisson will not be there. After a long injury break, she needs even more physical and mental rest and recovery.
Boisson said on social media that she “understood that it was the right decision, even if it was a difficult one.” She has to take her time before competing at the highest level again.
The 22-year-old spoke of a “very difficult period for several months” in which injuries and mental stress prevented her from doing “what I love most”.
“Going to Australia and playing the Australian Open has always been a dream of mine since I was little. I’ve done everything I can to be ready on time, but I also know that going too fast and pushing myself can be damaging to my body and my health in the long term,” she wrote.
“Now it’s time to accept, learn and get back up stronger and grown.”
One of the biggest tennis surprises
Boisson was one of the surprise players of the year in 2025. At the French Open she sensationally made it into the semi-finals as the first wildcard starter in the past 40 years, but then failed due to the eventual winner Coco Gauff. Among other things, she beat top 10 players and earned almost 700,000 euros in prize money.
Through this run, she improved by around 300 places in the world rankings and became the first French woman ever and only the fifth player in the professional era to be a semi-finalist in her Grand Slam debut. However, at Wimbledon she missed qualifying on grass.
Since Boisson is not playing in Melbourne, Elsa Jacquemot (WTA number 58) is the highest-ranked Frenchwoman in the Australian Open 2026 field.
This year, men and women will each receive 2.38 million euros in prize money for winning the title.
