According to the recent financial statements, Jääkiekon SM-liiga oy’s turnover was just under 32 million euros.

The accounting period ended on June 30, which practically covered the 2024–25 league season.

The increase compared to the previous season was 457,000 euros, less than one and a half percent.

The result of the most recent financial year was around 350,000 euros. The increase compared to the previous season was more than 110,000 euros.

SM-liiga oy had cash assets of 12.2 million euros at the end of the financial year. The account had as many as seven million euros more than at the same time a year earlier.

However, this does not directly mean that the company is millions wealthier. The money may be in transit, so to speak.

– This is about the annually varying cash flows and their payment schedules. The financial statements show the cash reserves at the end of the season, and there is nothing special about this, as the income statement in the financial statements shows, SM liiga’s CEO Mikko Pulkkinen spun around.

Pulkkinen did not want to elaborate on what caused the increase in cash assets.

In Kiekko-Espo, the redemption of the league share is still in progress. There is still 1.76 million euros to pay.

“On a solid foundation”

SM-liiga oy paid more than 2.5 million euros in wages last fiscal year.

There were an average of ten personnel, but according to the financial statements, salaries and bonuses have also been paid to 68 people belonging to the referee organization. If you divide the amount by 78 people, the average annual salary is almost 32,500 euros.

SM-liiga oy sums up in its financial statements that “the financial situation is still on a stable footing”.

– The financial situations of the shareholder clubs were still fluctuating, but according to the published financial statements and preliminary estimates, the combined operating losses of the clubs were almost halved compared to the previous season, the SM League writes in its financial statements.

– Inflation and global competition in the player market continue to challenge the clubs’ ability to make a profit, although a significant improvement compared to the previous season can be seen.

The average number of spectators for a league match was 4,659, the highest since the 2014–15 season.

– The season was spent excellently. At the end of an exceptionally popular and positive final series, the championship was won by KalPa, SM-liiga summa.

– During the final series, we also saw an unprecedented gathering at the square in Lappeenranta and Kuopio. The squares gathered thousands of spectators during the matches.
