Like father, like sons: Two of Jan Ullrich’s children took part in the German cycling cross championships at the weekend. One of the two fell.
Celebrity visit to the German cycling cross championships in Bensheim: Jan Ullrich followed the events as a spectator – and had a special reason for doing so. Two of his three sons, Benno and Toni Ullrich, competed in difficult conditions.
Benno drove in the U17 class, Toni in the U15. This time it wasn’t enough for top placings: Benno had to end the race early after a fall, Toni took 14th place. “They rode well. As a father, I’m of course proud,” Ullrich told Hessischer Rundfunk.
“The boys definitely had fun,” the former Tour de France winner continued. And remembered: “35 years ago I actually rode cyclocross to the World Championships, a fifth place. And now my sons are at the start. I’ve passed on the baton, so to speak.”
