BERLIN (dpa-AFX) – Long-distance rail traffic in northern Germany, which was partially suspended due to the weather, has started again on all main routes, according to the company. However, only a reduced offer is still possible and there could still be cancellations, Deutsche Bahn (DB) announced on Sunday morning.
The railway had temporarily completely stopped long-distance traffic in northern Germany since Friday due to the consequences of winter storm “Elli”. On Saturday it was said that long-distance traffic in northern Germany would be gradually resumed. Rail traffic on the Hamburg-Bremen-Osnabrück-NRW-Frankfurt connection has been running again since Saturday afternoon, the railway said.
Since Sunday morning, trains have been running again on the Hamburg-Hannover-Kassel-Southern Germany, Berlin-Hannover-NRW and Hamburg-Berlin connections, although not yet again with the scheduled service. According to railway information, traffic to Denmark and the Netherlands as well as to the coasts will be resumed during the course of Sunday.
There will be even greater restrictions in local transport in Schleswig-Holstein and Lower Saxony on Sunday. “Several routes cannot yet be used,” explained the railway. “We only expect the timetable to be gradually increased over the course of the day after the clearing work has been carried out.” The Hamburg S-Bahn is already “largely operating normally”.
Deutsche Bahn asked travelers to find out about the current traffic situation in the “DB Navigator” app or on www.bahn.de before starting their journey. Customers can also continue to use the free special hotline 08000 996633./kie/DP/zb
