New information has been received about Jari Saario’s situation.

Saario now has line of sight towards the incoming Cymona Eagle trading vessel.

Saario’s support team tells about it on Instagram.

– The ship’s crew has been in contact with him on the radio, the team says.

– Jari has prepared for the ship’s arrival.

Saario has flares and emergency rockets to ensure the approach, the publication says.

Saario was in trouble at sea on Friday, when his ship was damaged by a fierce wave and rough seas.

– This is a demanding and remote sea area, where distances are long and progress takes time, the support team said earlier on Instagram.

– Thank you for all your thoughts that you have sent to Jari!

Saario has been on a solo rowing trip from Cape Horn to Cape Town.

The rescue operation has been watched with excitement in Finland. On Saturday evening, it was reported that the journey of the ship rescuing Saariota had slowed down.

Earlier on Saturday, the support team described that Saario’s “situation is challenging, but the idea works”.

The support team promises to continue updating the situational information as soon as it receives new confirmed information.

Tapio Lehtinen, who has sailed alone around the world twice, told Iltalehte that he had talked with Saario before his sailing.

– I talked with him before this trip. We agreed that such a small boat in those conditions will capsize several times, the sailor conker told Iltalehte.

News corrected on January 11, 2026 at 1:54 am: The body text incorrectly stated in two places that the support team’s updates were released on Friday. Changed the days to the correct format for Saturday.

02:02: Fixed a typo in the merchant ship’s name. It’s Cymona Eagle, not Symona Eagle.
