Lots of goals, but no winner in two exciting Bundesliga games on Saturday. This is likely to cause further unrest, especially in Cologne.
Again no win for 1. FC Köln. After six games without three points, the penultimate Heidenheim only managed a 2-2 draw. Marvin Pieringer (15th) and Julian Niehues (26th) scored for Heidenheim, Eric Martel (18th) and substitute Saïd El Mala (48th) scored for Cologne.
Mainz 05 missed a win with its new coach Urs Fischer when Fischer returned to Berlin. Nadiem Amiri (30th) and Benedict Hollerbach (69th) put Mainz in the lead against Union, Wooyeong Jeong (77th) and Danilho Doekhi (86th) equalized in the end.
The crisis in results at 1. FC Köln continues in the new football year. At the start of the winter break, the promoted team did not get beyond a 2-2 (1-2) draw at 1. FC Heidenheim, who were in great danger of relegation, and have now been without a win in seven Bundesliga games.
After a half-time deficit, the top talent El Mala, who came on as a substitute at half-time, saved Cologne’s draw (48th minute). In the first half, Heidenheim took the lead twice thanks to a dream goal from Pieringer (15th) and Niehues (26th). Martel had made it 1-1 (18th).
Before the complicated home game on Wednesday evening against FC Bayern Munich, which is dominant in the Bundesliga, the Cologne team at least kept the Ostalb club at bay with a five-point lead. The FCH had expected more for the restart and is facing its next groundbreaking appearance in the relegation battle on Tuesday in Mainz.
Union Berlin’s former cult coach Urs Fischer missed out on his first Bundesliga victory with FSV Mainz 05 despite a long lead on his emotional return to the Alte Försterei. The Swiss ultimately had to settle for bottom of the Bundesliga with the Eisernen with a 2-2 (1-0) and one point in the Bundesliga relegation battle.
