In Chasse Patate, the supporters’ café in Bavikhove, the board and some members of Eli Iserbyt’s fan club reminisce. In his career as a cyclo-cross rider, Iserbyt won 54 races. It will remain that way. Operations for a narrowing of his femoral artery did not provide any relief and so it is over and out for the cyclo-cross rider who is only 28 years old.
The fan club has been around since 2015, the year before Iserbyt became U23 world champion. But for the supporters, it did not always have to be the big victories that were the best: “The early years with the young riders in particular were the best moments because he was small at the time. It was among friends, among supporters. That was the start of his career.”
