Next bad misfire from Kevin Behrens: The former German national player once again made a negative appearance.

During the friendly match against Czech club Viktoria Pilsen (2:4) on Friday morning, Behrens, who is now scoring goals for Swiss first division club FC Lugano, pushed his teammate Georgios Koutsias to the ground for no apparent reason and insulted him violently.

On the recordings of the live stream, Behrens can be heard denigrating Koutsias as a “little freak” and asking him to be quiet immediately.

FC Lugano condemned the incident “clearly” in a statement.

The club announcedto deal with the matter internally and decide on possible disciplinary action for Behrens. There was initially no reaction from the 34-year-old.

Homophobia scandal in Wolfsburg

It is not the first time that Behrens has attracted negative attention in recent times. The attacker, who played for Union Berlin and VfL Wolfsburg in the 1st Bundesliga during his career, had already caused a scandal in autumn 2024.

As part of a marketing campaign, the player refused to sign a Wolfsburg jersey designed in rainbow colors as a symbol of diversity and tolerance. “I won’t sign such gay shit,” he said at the time.

VfL Wolfsburg strongly condemned the incident and imposed a draconian penalty on Behrens. The player later publicly apologized for his “not okay” words.

There was a lot of headwind from our own fans. “VfL: propagate diversity credibly or accept Behrens on the pitch,” read a banner from Wolfsburg fans. When a substitution was made, many supporters reacted loudly by whistling. There were also clear statements in other stadiums, including FC St. Pauli and Werder Bremen.

Behrens played his only international match on the US trip in autumn 2023, in a 2-2 draw against Mexico.
