Hertha BSC wants the east curve reserved for members only. However, they will no longer receive a discount in the future.
The second division team Hertha BSC has informed its fans in a letter of two changes that are likely to spark discussions. It’s about the east curve and discounts. The club management had explained to the members that in the future only members would be allowed into the area of the east curve. According to a report in the “Bild” newspaper, other season ticket holders either have to become club members or look for another seat.
The club explained that the decision was made due to the high demand from club members for season tickets. Because many would no longer have a place between the club’s most loyal fans. “We have therefore consciously decided to prioritize our members in this special area of our stadium,” the club said in a statement. Membership costs between 60 and 84 euros per year.
At the same time, however, discounts on tickets and fan items will no longer apply. Previously there was a ten percent discount for members. In return, the club wants to offer them “exclusive added value,” including a 24-hour right of first refusal on certain products and preferential treatment in the merchandise shop. There should still be a right of first refusal for tickets.
The east curve regulation was not well received by some fans. “[Ich] I think that’s anything but a thank you for the support over the last few years despite miserable performances…”, wrote a commenter on the Facebook page of the OFC Section Hertha 1892 fan club. “That really annoys me, I’ve been at Hertha for decades, I’ve really experienced a lot and now I have to be a member. I was and am a fan club member, which is hardly worth anything anymore,” wrote another fan.
Members are also critical of the plan: “I’m a Hertha member and also an Ostkurven DK owner. I think it’s cheeky to force someone to take out a membership. The club won’t make many friends as a result,” said one comment.
