The president across the board on the occasion of the club’s 126th anniversary celebration: “Refereeing wrongs? The situation must be resolved. Let’s remember that we are listed on the stock exchange. Guendouzi and Castellanos wanted to leave. The substitutes are young and of quality. Flaminio? We’re in the details”

The party for the club’s 126th anniversary, the official ceremony with the mayor of Rome Gualtieri, the minister of agriculture Lollobrigida and the governor of the Lazio region Rocca and then the inevitable all-out declarations, not without controversy. Claudio Lotito in full force on the day in which Lazio celebrates its foundation, which took place on 9 January 1900. The location of the celebrations is the Parco dei Daini, inside Villa Borghese, a non-random place because here, at the beginning of the 1900s, Lazio played its championship matches. A plaque was unveiled (mayor Gualtieri did it, as the owner of the house) which recalls how that pitch was the first pitch for the Biancoceleste team.

referee controversies

Then, at the end of the ceremony, Lotito talked about everything, starting with the hottest topic of the moment, the controversy over the refereeing decisions. “The problem – said the president – is the overall stability of the system. We wrote a letter to the League to try to resolve the issue, to open a technical table, given that it is a problem that concerns everyone. But we have had no response. It means that we will act in other places”. Then, going into specifics, Lotito added: “Lazio are missing 8-9 points due to certain refereeing decisions. We are not the only ones to have been damaged, but we were probably the most damaged. It is a situation that must be resolved, let’s not forget that we are also a company listed on the stock exchange and the economic damage resulting from certain issues weighs heavily.”

market and raspadori

Then Lotito moved on to examine another topical issue, that relating to the market. “We sold two players (Castellanos and Guendouzi, ed.) because they asked to be sold, not because we wanted to send them away. But we replaced them with equally strong and promising players (Ratkov and Taylor, ed.). Will we make other purchases? We will do whatever is necessary.” There was also talk of Lazio’s interest in Raspadori (now about to go to Roma). “And who is Raspadori? He’s not Maradona”, ruled Lotito, denying that there was any real interest in the player (“in Atletico Madrid he is a reserve”, added the president).

flaminio

Another hot topic is the Flaminio stadium. Mayor Gualtieri revealed that the project for the assignment of the plant to Lazio is entering the decisive phase. And Lotito confirmed: “The process was slowed down a bit because we had to resolve some critical issues. We preferred to put everything in place to avoid having to stop later. We’re almost there now, we think we’ve created a project that also safeguards the historical and architectural importance of the Flaminio stadium. Timeframe for completion? Let’s say that it’s realistic to think of being able to start the renovation works within three years.”
