Because of storm “Elli”
Bundesliga game apparently canceled

On Saturday, FC St. Pauli actually wanted to host RB Leipzig at the start of the second half of the season. But apparently nothing comes of it.
The storm “Elli” has resulted in the first game being canceled in the Bundesliga. As “Bild” reports, the game between FC St. Pauli and RB Leipzig has to be canceled. The game would actually have taken place tomorrow, Saturday afternoon (3:30 p.m.). The “Hamburger Morgenpost” had already reported that a cancellation was likely.
According to the report, it is not the grass that is the problem, but the masses of snow on the stands and the roof. These pose a safety risk, especially in strong winds when large amounts of snow and ice could fall from the roof onto fans or players. For the same reason, for example, the game between FC Bayern and Union Berlin in the Allianz Arena in December 2023 was postponed to a later date.
St. Pauli had already considered a cancellation possible on Thursday. “Given the weather situation, we cannot guarantee that the game can take place under the given circumstances,” the club said.
Coach Alexander Blessin, however, struggled to play the game. “We assume that the game will take place. We want to play, and that’s why there are no question marks at all,” said the 52-year-old at the matchday press conference. He and his players prepared accordingly. Blessin also has no alternative program in the event of cancellation. “There is no plan B for us.” Now they have to develop this in the coming weeks.
After all: Since neither St. Pauli nor Leipzig are represented in international business, there are a few options during the week.
