It is raining in almost all of Brabant on Friday morning. The white blanket that covered our province is disappearing like snow in the sun. But not for long. It will snow again on Friday evening and the snow will remain for the next few days.

While it is already snowing heavily in the north of the Netherlands, it will still be a while before we see the snowflakes falling again in Brabant. “What falls this morning, and for a large part of the afternoon, is rain,” says weatherman Johnny Willemsen of Weerplaza.

“Before it really turns into snow and remains in Brabant, you will only be in the evening.”

Temperatures below zero
The temperature will drop in the evening, says Willemsen, and that will ensure that the snow will remain on Saturday and Sunday. “In the second half of the evening and certainly tonight, snow will fall, at temperatures that drop below zero. And tomorrow morning it may still snow a little bit. Tomorrow everything will look nice again,” the weatherman refers to the snow cover that provided beautiful pictures this week.

Locally severe frost
The (extreme) cold will also return to Brabant at the weekend. “Tomorrow afternoon and Sunday it will be dry. Especially on Sunday with some sun. And it will be very cold. Temperatures during the night from Saturday to Sunday will be a moderate frost, locally perhaps severe frost. Severe temperatures will be below minus ten. On Sunday during the day the temperature will return to freezing point, between zero and minus three.”

Thaw attack
After the weekend, according to Willemsen, the cold and snow will be over again. “There will be a thaw on Monday. Precipitation could start as snow, but will become liquid quite quickly. There is the risk that it could result in icy conditions. Monday morning could really be bad. It will simply be five degrees and the rest of the week the temperatures will be well above zero. Winter will really be over after Monday.”
