Fabrizio Corona I am newsreview and plot of the Netflix docuseries streaming 9 January 2026, episode duration
In 5 episodes about an hour, I am news tells the life of the “King of the paparazzi” Fabrizio Corona. Even if, as Corona himself states, he has never taken a photograph in his life. The docuseries it is not only his biography but also a portrait of Italy since the 90s onwards. From the “Berlusconi” era torise of social networks in a story direct and uncensored, in full Corona style.
Born in Catania in 1974, Fabrizio Corona is the son of Vittorio Corona, journalist Sicilian who shaped the publishing of the 80s with important monthlies such as Fashion And King and then became one of the first directors of the news Open Studio. At a very young age, he began working side by side with Lele Mora and, at the beginning of the 2000s, Corona built an empire in Milan based on the sale of photographs and scoops to newspapers, becoming the “King of the paparazzi”. In 2001 marries top model Nina Moric – with whom he will have his first-born Carlos – and transforms gossip into a weapon of poweridentifying money as the only yardstick of affection and success.
The rise of the entrepreneur undergoes a sudden setback in 2006 with the Vallettopoli investigation. Accused of extortion, Corona came in 2015 definitively sentenced by the Supreme Court to 13 years and 2 months’ imprisonment for continuing offences. The golden boy becomes like this a public enemyscoring at the same time the definitive birth of his “character”. Under house arrest from 2021, Corona opened his YouTube channel last year Extremely false. Where he proposes, with a sharp and provocative style, investigations, interviews, comments and scoops linked to the world of gossip.
The neutral point of view of I am news
How to talk about such an ambiguous public figure and controversial when Are reality and fiction often confused? A great challenge for director Massimo Cappello who, together with Marzia Maniscalco, also wrote the screenplay for these five overwhelming episodes which, very often, seem to have been created by a brilliant Hollywood screenwriter.
Cappello intelligently chooses a neutral position, where Corona is neither judged nor acquitted. Balancing the first-person narrative well and the voices of friends, ex-friends and journalists like Marianna Aprile and Enrico Dal Buono.
In the bombastic infinite parable of rises and falls, the series does not only document Corona’s life but it also investigates that gray area between good and evil. But above all between reality and fiction while Corona reels off his misdeeds in front of the camera. Without seeking the viewer’s empathy.
Nina Moric in a scene from the docuseries “I am news”. (Netflix)
Actor and author of his very personal tragicomedythe entrepreneur is perhaps all too aware of his sinister magnetism but, fortunately, the director builds a frame around his story that is almost like an Italian comedyincluding music. Populated by characters worthy of a Dino Risi film or Mario Monicelli – from the paparazzo Marcello Sorge to the former tronista Costantino Vitagliano – I am news always maintains light tones even in the most painful memories. Like the sentences in court and life in prison in Potenza with the ‘ndraghetists.
What emerges is therefore a portrait without discountsand well far from hagiography that many feared, where Fabrizio Corona and his desperate vitality are able to transform every fall into a spectacle and every tragedy into a human comedy. AND in the finale of the docuseries, where Corona gets furious with the directorthey seem drop all the masks of a man who has now made autofiction his reason for living.
The cast of I am news beyond Corona: Nina Moric, Lele Mora, Marco Travaglio
To balance the self-exaltation of the former King of the paparazzi, a large audience of faces which, in each episode, act as a counterpoint to his often hyperbolic stories. “He’s a clown” his ex-wife Nina Moric constantly repeats who, with pain, she also remembers when she had an abortion at Corona’s request before the birth of their son Carlos.
Together with her also another great “love” of Corona, Lele Moraa former entertainment agent who confesses his overwhelming (and only partially reciprocated) passion for that handsome and cheeky boy from the late 90s. The journalists Marianna Aprile and Marco Travaglio, on the other hand, are the ones who bring “neutrality” to the parable of Corona. Although Travaglio, a great friend of Fabrizio’s father, cannot help but admit that “deep down I love him a little bit.”
In the game of ambiguity between reality and fiction and love and hate, even the most upright detractorsas emerges from the words of Platinette or the writer and journalist Enrico Dal Buono, However, they seem to be fascinated of the character. Last but not least, mother Gabriella That, even though he condemns his son, he lets love shine through unconditional. A “doubleness” of soul perfectly consistent with the almost grotesque setting of the series which, in the last minutes, he seems to leave sense that (perhaps) a second chapter will arrive.
