Ella Seidel was eliminated in the round of 16 at the WTA tournament in Auckland at the start of the new tennis season.
The 20-year-old from Hamburg had to admit defeat to the British Sonay Kartal 3:6, 1:6. At the start, Seidel easily defeated New Zealand’s Monique Barry 6:2, 6:1.
Seidel is in New Zealand preparing for the Australian Open, which begins on January 18th in Melbourne. At the first Grand Slam tournament of the year she will be in the main draw for the first time.
Thanks to strong performances, the hopeful made it into the top 100 of the world rankings in the fall. She is currently ranked 84th. Seidel has not yet managed to win one of the four Grand Slams.
