With the 1977/78 season, another historic season in the Oberliga Berlin is now available in the Transfermarkt database. Wacker 04 became champions with just seven minus points. The SC qualified for the promotion round to the 2nd Bundesliga North, became group winners and was promoted. Things weren’t going to go so well there, however, because things went straight back down for the club.

With Blau-Weiß 90 Berlin, a later Bundesliga club from the Oberliga – alongside Neuköllner FC – was relegated. The top scorer was Klaus Schulze from BFC Preussen with 23 goals, who then moved to Bayer Leverkusen.

Hertha Zehlendorf already had good youth work back then, the U19s played in the final round of the championship that season. Some of the A-youths were also used in the major league team. Among others, the later FC icon Pierre Littbarski, who played for the seniors before moving to Cologne. With this season his performance data is now complete.

Other well-known players who were used in the season were Uwe Knodel (later Holstein Kiel and FC St. Pauli), Dieter Timme (37 Bundesliga and 121 second division games for Hertha BSC), Michael Kuntze (later Fortuna Köln and 1. FC Saarbrücken) and Detlef Bruckhoff (later Darmstadt 98 and 1860 Munich).
