Barcelona is playing for the Spanish Super Cup in Saudi Arabia. Before the semi-final, however, the demoted DFB goalkeeper had to leave injured. Sports director Deco then commented.
Marc-André ter Stegen had to leave FC Barcelona’s training camp in Saudi Arabia, but according to the club he was not seriously injured. As Barça sporting director Deco announced, the national goalkeeper’s knee is once again causing concern, but there is no serious injury.
“He had a bad feeling in his knee, and of course you’re always a little worried when a player comes back from an injury because he’s had problems with this knee in the past,” said Deco in an interview with broadcaster Movistar before the Super Cup semi-final against Bilbao (5-0) in Jeddah. The knee is now immobilized. “And we’re glad it’s nothing serious,” said Deco.
Barça had previously announced: “Ter Stegen is leaving the Blaugrana training camp in Saudi Arabia to return to Barcelona and undergo medical examinations.”
Ter Stegen is currently being checked there – by the doctor who had already operated on his knee in the past.
The 33-year-old recently celebrated his comeback. In the 2-0 win in the Spanish Cup against CD Guadalajara, he was in goal again for the first time after a long break. In order to qualify for the World Cup in the summer, Ter Stegen needs match practice. Recently, a move within the league, including on loan to FC Girona, was discussed in the media.
Sports director Deco didn’t comment specifically: “There’s nothing to say about the future. Marc is our player, he came to Saudi Arabia to be part of the team and then this happened to him, that’s it,” he said.
