Bus company Qbuzz reports that no buses will run in Groningen and Drenthe until ten o’clock this morning due to the expected slippery conditions. The KNMI has issued an orange code for Drenthe at 3 p.m. Rijkswaterstaat advises not to go on the road and to work from home if possible.
New snow showers have already moved into Drenthe last night. RTV Drenthe weatherwoman Grieta Spannenburg expects three to ten centimeters to fall. The wind can also make it feel extra cold.
The Rijkswaterstaat gritting teams have been on their way since five o’clock this morning. “We have about twenty spreaders, everything we have is on its way,” says spokesperson Christian Kooistra. Traffic appears to be adapting well to the situation, according to Rijkswaterstaat. Although snowfighters do what is possible, Rijkswaterstaat also sees that not everything can be pushed away or spread immediately. “You always have to take outliers into account. Almost twenty centimeters fell at Joure, you can’t just get rid of that. And that can also happen locally in Drenthe.”
The advice to work from home therefore remains valid, even when spreaders and snow plows are fully deployed.
