Iserlohn allowed himself to be duped twice early on in the DEL game in Augsburg – and then came back. On matchday 37, the Roosters took two points from the Panthers with a 3:2 (0:2, 2:0, 0:0, 0:0, 1:0) after a penalty shootout.
The hosts presented in the initial phase on Tuesday (January 6th, 2026). Within 70 seconds, Alexander Blank (10th minute) and Moritz Elias (11th) made it 2-0.
Julian Napravnik (33′) and Daniel Neumann (34′) brought the Roosters back into the game in the second third. Captain Daniel Fischbuch ensured the decision in favor of the Roosters in the penalty shootout. “We didn’t give up after the unfortunate start,” said Fischbuch at “Magentasport”.
With 37 points, Iserlohn remains in 12th place and 15 points away from the relegation zone. Conversely, the pre-playoff places for the Sauerlanders are also 11 points away.
Two simple passes bring Augsburg two goals
The Panthers took advantage of disorder in the Roosters defense twice in the first few minutes. At 1-0, during a face-off in Augsburg’s third, Blank escaped on a long pass through the middle and finished coldly.
And later on the visitors’ defense didn’t look good either: once again a pass through the center was enough to send Elias on his way and the score was 2-0. Until the end of the first 20 minutes there was nothing more from the guests.
Iserlohn comes back within 31 seconds
But during the third break, coach Stefan Nyman seemed to have found the right words. The Roosters came back to the ice with more energy. Just a few seconds after the start, Napravnik scored the next goal (21st). But Panther goalie Michael Garteig made a strong save.
But the tone was set. Iserlohn suddenly played with momentum and pressure – and was rewarded with a double strike. First Napravnik snaked his way through the entire backline with the puck on his stick and scored to make it 1-2.
Roosters: Neumann scores, Hane saves
Just 31 seconds later, the guests were celebrating again when Neumann was completely blank in the middle of a Camara back pass and wiped the puck into the goal over the right post to make it 2-2. Everything is open again.
Because Hendrik Hane (ended with 23 saves, 92.0 percent) held on to the draw in the Iserlohn goal with an outstanding save against the free Riley Damiani (38th), things went into the final third evenly – although Anthony Camara even scored what was supposed to be the third Iserlohn goal. But the puck didn’t cross the line until after the siren.
“We did better in the second third because we closed the middle,” said Iserlohn’s Johannes Huß at “Magentasport”.
Post saves Roosters in overtime
In the final third, both teams defended very stably and if something did come through, the goalies were there. So it went into overtime. The Augsburg fans cheered there after almost two and a half minutes – but the Panthers’ shot only hit the post.
On the other hand, Napravnik (64th) missed a good Iserlohn opportunity after driving behind the goal. Things got dramatic in the final seconds when Christian Thomas drove towards the Augsburg goal again. Garteig parried, but the puck slipped through and almost went over the line to Blank, who was behind it. But in the video evidence, the referees decided no goal.
Fischbuch makes Iserslohn cheer
That’s why it went to a penalty shootout. There, Fischbuch was the only shooter to convert and secured Iserlohn’s away win.
On Thursday (08.01.2026, 7.30 p.m.) the Roosters, who got off to a great start to the new year with six points from the last three games, will face champions Eisbären Berlin at their home Seilersee.
