After center forward Phillip Tietz, 1. FSV Mainz 05 has presented the next new addition for the offensive. Right winger Silas joins Rheinhessen from Bundesliga rivals VfB Stuttgart. The Zero Fives did not say how long the 27-year-old signed for. Since his contract with the Swabians would have expired in the summer, the transfer fee is reportedly low.
We are talking about a little less than a million euros in the event of relegation, otherwise the sum is even lower. The Congolese was also prepared to cut back on his salary and will in future receive less than the rumored 2.5 million euros per year that he received at VfB. The winger leaves Stuttgart after 132 appearances (35 goals, 21 assists).
“We are very pleased that we were able to win Silas for Mainz 05. Everyone immediately associates him with speed, assertiveness in 1-1 draws and goal threat, which he has already impressively demonstrated at VfB Stuttgart. Silas is a reinforcement for our squad and brings new facets to our offensive game,” said sports director Niko Bungert. Silas added: “I’m really looking forward to being able to show what I can do for Mainz 05 in the future. The discussions with the club were very good and characterized by great appreciation. I’m dying to finally be able to be on the pitch in the Bundesliga again and can’t wait for it to finally get started.”
The Zero Fives only scored 13 goals in 15 games and were never able to compensate for the departure of striker Jonathan Burkardt to Eintracht Frankfurt. In addition to Tietz, Silas is now supposed to help. However, he has not yet been used at VfB this season. After his furious early days in Stuttgart with promotion in 2020 and then eleven goals in 25 games, the ex-Parisian tore a cruciate ligament. In the following season he struggled with serious shoulder surgery, but was no longer able to return to his best form and was loaned out to Red Star Belgrade in 2024/25.
