Coach Wilfried Nancy, who was presented as a preferred candidate at Celtic Glasgow at the beginning of December, is history again. The Bhoys announced their quick split from the Frenchman on Monday after just 33 days. The contract with the 48-year-old, who was brought in from the MLS club Columbus Crew, which is valid until 2028, has been terminated with immediate effect. In addition, the sporting director Paul Tisdale was also relieved of his duties.
Update 8:54 p.m.: On Monday evening, Celtic announced that Martin O’Neill would once again take over the vacant coaching position until the end of the season. The 73-year-old, who was in office between 2000 and 2005 and on an interim basis in autumn 2025, will be supported by assistants Shaun Maloney and Mark Fotheringham as well as deputy coach Stephen McManus. “I’m really pleased and honored to have been asked to coach the team again and I’m looking forward to working with the players again,” O’Neill said. “I know we all hoped things would be different under Wilfried and I personally wish him the best of luck in everything he does in football.”
Nancy lost the first of his four games with Celtic, including the top duel against league leaders Heart of Midlothian (1:2) and the League Cup final against St. Mirren (1:3). After two wins, there were two more defeats, most recently on Saturday at home in the derby against Glasgow Rangers (1:3). In the Scottish Premiership, the defending champions are level with their city rivals, six points behind Hearts.
