The writer Nicolás Márquez, one of the biographers and public defenders of Javier Milei, was once again involved in a strong controversy after publishing an offensive message against the president of Colombia, Gustavo Petro. The comment was broadcast on his X account in a regional context marked by the crisis in Venezuela and the hardening of Donald Trump’s speech towards Latin American governments.
“Well, @gustavopetrourrego’s ass is cared for and attended to by a Central American transvestite. So I presume that the Colombian drug dictator has experience in this matter,” wrote Márquez, in a post that generated immediate repudiation for its discriminatory and sexually explicit content.
This is not an isolated outburst. In the past, Márquez had already made homophobic statements that aroused widespread rejection. In 2024, he publicly maintained that homosexuality was an “insane and self-destructive behavior,” statements that were questioned by political leaders, social organizations and human rights groups.
The verbal attack against Petro occurred after the Colombian president participated in a public exchange with Trump, in which the US president issued direct warnings within the framework of the regional escalation after the capture of Nicolás Maduro. In this scenario, the diplomatic conflict also moved to the discursive level, with explicit alignments and reactions from different political sectors.
In this context, Márquez took sides and took the dispute to the personal level, with a message that exceeded the political debate and reignited the discussion about the limits of public discourse. Although he does not hold any formal position in the Government, his figure is usually associated with the ideological environment of the Argentine President, which amplified the impact of the episode in a regional climate already plagued by diplomatic tensions and verbal confrontations.
