Prokop will be released from his duties “after a comprehensive sporting analysis,” the Lower Saxony announced. “We believed in the existing constellation until the end. However, based on the impressions of the situation at the turn of the year, we came to the conclusion that we cannot achieve a good end by sticking to the constellation,” explained sporting director Sven-Sören Christophersen. There should now be “a structured transition” and a new start during the winter break.

At the end of November, the Lower Saxony team announced that they would part ways after the current season. A little later, the TSV introduced Juan Carlos Pastor as the new coach. The Spaniard will now take over with immediate effect.

The Spaniard signs a two-year contract with the handball Bundesliga club that will be valid from next summer and will therefore be Christian Prokop’s successor.

Mixed season for the “Rocks”

Prokop has been on the “Recken” sidelines since 2021. During this time, three consecutive placements in the top third of the handball Bundesliga were achieved for the first time. Last year the team even played for the title well into the second half of the season.

So far this season, TSV hasn’t really gotten going. Lower Saxony’s record in the European League is good, but in the league there are already eight defeats (and four draws) after 19 games (ninth place), and the cup exit against Bergischer HC is also having a negative impact on the record.

“Such decisions never feel good, but are sometimes unavoidable, especially in sport,” explained TSV managing director Eike Korsen.
