National player Karim Adeyemi has accepted a fine from his club Borussia Dortmund after his freak out against Borussia Mönchengladbach.
According to media information, BVB’s sporting management imposed a fine in the high five-figure range at the training camp in Marbella.
On Friday, coach Niko Kovac said after arriving in Andalusia that there had been no conversation with Adeyemi. “I know Karim very well, Karim is a very, very good boy by nature,” said Kovac. “I know he made a mistake. He will certainly change that accordingly.”
Kehl had to calm Adeyemi down
The offensive star had made many gestures about being substituted in the 60th minute during BVB’s 2-0 win against Borussia Mönchengladbach and had to be calmed down by BVB sports director Sebastian Kehl. “The scene will be talked about, he will get a penalty for it,” said Kehl on “Sky” immediately after the game. “I don’t want to see the reaction, the coach doesn’t want to see it, nobody wants to see it.”
That wasn’t appropriate, said the sports director; the players had to accept it when the coach made a decision. Then Kehl became specific: “We’ve had some of these situations now and we don’t want to see these situations and that’s why he’s going to get a fine for it.”
Kovac justifies substitution
BVB coach Kovac said Adeyemi also had to learn to deal with weaker games. “It wasn’t his best game today and as a coach you have to make decisions. The decision was that I took him down in the 60th minute and brought on his friend Maxi Beier, who fortunately scored a goal,” said Kovac, explaining Adeyemi’s substitution.
It’s about emotions, but you also have to be insightful. Regarding the announced penalty, Kovac said: “This is the club’s decision, which I totally understand, accept and think is right.”
Most recently, a criminal warrant for illegal possession of weapons
Adeyemi had repeatedly caused a stir with his behavior. In mid-November it became known that the 23-year-old national player had already received a penalty order for illegal possession of weapons at the end of October with a fine of 60 daily rates.
BVB managing director Lars Ricken and DFB sports director Rudi Völler also agreed that the BVB professional should get involved in a social project in Dortmund’s Nordstadt. BVB did not plan any further sanctions at the time.
