The DEL game went into overtime at 2-2, but remained goalless. While Jeglic and Krämmer sank their penalties for Bremerhaven, the guests’ two shooters failed.

Thanks to the victory in the shootout, the Fischtown Pinguins received two points. They remain in sixth place in the DEL table, which qualifies for direct participation in the play-offs after the end of the main round.

On the other hand, pursuers Eisbären Berlin scored three points at home against Augsburg and thus shortened the gap to Bremerhaven. Both teams are separated by four points after matchday 36.

Iserlohn shoots the game in Bremerhaven

Christian Wejse scored the lead for the Penguins in the 14th minute of the game. But before the end of the first third, the Roosters came back – also in the power play: First Leon Hungerecker was able to save twice, but the Fischtown goalkeeper was powerless on the third shot by Henrik Törnqvist (20th minute).

The second round began with Fischtown coach Alexander Sulzer shaking his head. After a perimeter check, the referee gave Alex Friesen a five-minute penalty. Incomprehensible for Sulzer and the fans, who acknowledged this decision with lots of whistles.

It was a nerve-wracking game with a lot of ups and downs because we played a lot of times outnumbered – justified or not is another topic.

Although the Pinguins survived the time outnumbered, they promptly conceded the 1-2 deficit through Robin Norell (29′) when they were fully occupied. The Pinguins’ response didn’t take long to arrive: Fabian Herrmann’s cross pass in front of the Iserlohn goal reached Justin Büsing, who pushed the puck into the net to make it 2-2 (30′).

Post prevents Penguins from winning in regular time

This score didn’t change in the last half – also because the Pinguins hit the post a few seconds before the end of regular time. Since neither team could score in extra time, the game went to a penalty shootout, which Bremerhaven won with goals from Ziga Jeglic and Nico Krämmer.
