The Löwen Braunschweig suffered a significant home defeat in the Basketball Bundesliga. The Lower Saxony team had to admit defeat against champions FC Bayern Munich on Sunday with 62:91 (37:49).
Table 16. In the end, the BBL was in a losing battle against the individual quality of the front runner. The Lions have to get points in the relegation battle elsewhere. Against Bayern, Luka Scuka was Braunschweig’s best scorer with 18 points, while Justinian Jessup scored 20 points for the guests.
Strong start for the Lions
Braunschweig got off to a perfect start against the favorites. Bayern, who were completely out of their depth, produced far too many turnovers at the beginning and in the sold-out Löwen Hall, not a few people rubbed their eyes in surprise when after just under six minutes, 14:3 for the home team flashed on the scoreboard. But Munich woke up in the first quarter and quickly reduced the lead to 18:21 with two or three good plays.
Only 3 out of 14 three-point attempts
And the champions stayed on the ball and now acted much more aggressively and accurately. Braunschweig held on bravely against the best offense in the league, but Munich had a deserved twelve-point lead (49:37) at the break. Braunschweig’s biggest problem was the rate from distance, only 3 out of 14 three-point attempts found their way into Bayern’s basket.
Bayern’s Jovic is hard to hold
Braunschweig was now gradually dismantling, while the Munich machine ran more and more smoothly. Especially against Stefan Jovic, the Lions couldn’t find a solution; the Bayern point guard delivered one assist after the other. The 53:71 after three quarters was bittersweet for Braunschweig.
The rest was a formality for the sovereign Bavarians. Braunschweig also lacked the options from the bench to possibly turn the game around again.
