Contract extension? Neuer’s statement makes you sit up and take notice

The former national goalkeeper’s contract with FC Bayern expires this summer. Now Neuer himself has commented on a possible stay in Munich – and has named a date.
Manuel Neuer has announced that he will not make his decision about a possible contract extension at FC Bayern Munich until spring. The 39-year-old goalkeeper, whose contract with the German record champions expires this summer, says he would like to wait and see the developments in the club and his own sporting situation.
During a visit to the Emertsham fan club in the Traunstein district, Neuer explained that he was “positive” about a contract extension, but wanted to wait and see “how things develop in the next few months.” He plans to make a final decision at the end of March or beginning of April.
Neuer suffered a torn muscle fiber in his right thigh in the 2-2 draw against FSV Mainz 05 in mid-December. Nevertheless, he is optimistic that he will be back in goal when the Bundesliga restarts next weekend. The Munich team will face VfL Wolfsburg on Sunday at 5:30 p.m.
