After three defeats, Bundesliga basketball team Trier is back on the winning road. The promoted team defeated runner-up Ulm with a strong performance.
Despite a 19-point lead in the third quarter, Ulm came close in the end. After three defeats in a row, newly promoted Trier managed its ninth win of the season 100:89. Ulm could only dominate the game at the beginning. From the second quarter onwards, Trier took over with good defense and quick attacks.
Strong start from Ulms Baskebtallern
The guests from Ulm got off to a better start and were ahead 12:3 after two and a half minutes. Trier had a hard time, but got into the game better thanks to seven points from veteran Maik Zirbes. Newcomer Stephen Ashworth made his first basket after eight minutes and brought the Gladiators within 20:21 with a three-pointer.
Good defense gives Trier the lead at the break
Trier started the second quarter strongly and forced Ulm to make difficult shots on defense. Nolan Adenkunle gave Trier the lead for the first time in this phase (27:26).

Ulm had even bigger problems when Trier switched from man to zone coverage. Trier took a 49:37 halftime lead with lots of fast breaks. Trier’s new development player Stephen Ashworth is also noticeable. The American had arrived in Trier just two days earlier. He already handed out six assists in the first half. In the end he scored a strong 16 points.
After the break, things continued as they had been for the previous 20 minutes. Trier kept Ulm at a distance with lots of ball wins and quick attacks. Biggest lead 73:54. But Ulm stayed in the game thanks to Chris Ledlum, who was in great spirits, and lots of offensive rebounds.
Tension in the final phase
In the last quarter, Ulm once again came dangerously close to the Gladiators. Tobias Jensen kept his team in the game with three three-pointers. And Ulm’s strongest player, Chris Ledlum, kept going to the basket. But Trier resisted. With the final siren, Nolan Adekunle made it 100 points with his final.
After the deserved victory, the Gladiators Ulm are in fourth place in the Basketball Bundesliga with 9:5 victories. Ratiopharm Ulm is just behind in fifth place.
