A snow disaster was close at the Tour de Ski, but now we can talk about “only” a snow fiasco.
The particularly mild early winter caused great challenges for the organizers of the Val di Fiemme competitions. It wasn’t until last Thursday that we got the final confirmation that enough snow can be pumped into the Alpe Cermis skiing center so that the final stage of the Tour can be organized.
– The trail is marked with snow, said Viaplay’s ski commentator Jussi Eskola.
– There is no danger of getting lost, added the expert Sami Jauhojärvi.
According to the press release of the race organizers, there is so little snow that, for example, it was not possible to organize a place for the media to work in the skiing center as in previous years.
At the end of January, the famous 70-kilometer marathon skiing Marcialonga should be organized in the Val di Fiemme valley.
Before Christmas, the competition organizers only had about ten percent of the sufficient amount of canned and cannon snow.
Around the turn of the year, northern Italy was hit by frost. This is a big relief for the organizers of Marcialonga.
“We will organize the competition as planned”, the event organization announced.
