Borussia Dortmund captain Emre Can evaluated the long injury period, the team’s goals and his own future in an exclusive interview with Sky Sport during the camp in Marbella. The statements of the experienced football player were also a response to the transfer allegations regarding Beşiktaş.

The 30-year-old midfielder emphasized that the injury process he experienced was quite exhausting both physically and mentally. Stating that he experienced ups and downs during the rehabilitation period, Can stated that the support of his family and especially his wife was decisive for him. “I always told myself, ‘One day you will be healthy again.’ This thought kept me going,” he summarized the process with these words.

Speaking candidly about his current situation, Can said that it was difficult to give an exact percentage: “It is difficult to say what percentage I am. Every day without pain is a good day for me. The last training sessions were a positive start.”

Touching on the performance of the team, the experienced captain argued that Borussia Dortmund’s situation should not be viewed pessimistically. Reminding that they were in second place in the Bundesliga and that the goals in the Champions League were still in their hands, Can stated that their elimination from the German Cup made them sad. “Our first goal is definitely to get a Champions League ticket. We also want to go as far as possible in Europe,” he said.

Evaluating the whistles coming from the stands after the Bodø/Glimt match in the Champions League, Can said that the reactions are understandable in case of bad performances, but this can be demoralizing when the team is in good shape. “We can be better, we need to improve especially in set pieces, but overall we are on the right track,” he said.

Referring to the automatic extension option in his contract, Emre Can emphasized that he has a strong bond of trust with the club. “For now, I think I will be in Borussia Dortmund next season. I am happy here and the club has always supported me in difficult times. Nothing is certain in football, but as of today, my plan is to stay here,” he gave his message clearly about his future.
