In the qualification for the third competition of the Four Hills Tournament in Innsbruck, all five German jumpers made it into tomorrow’s competition. Felix Hoffmann secured the best starting position.
As usual, Felix Hoffmann made it into the top 10. He reached 123 meters on the selective hill on Bergisel, placing him in fifth place behind four Austrians. The current tour runner-up, Jan Hörl, secured the qualifying victory with the day’s best distance of 128 meters.
Top jumper Gone with the Wind
Philipp Raimund was the second best jumper from the German Ski Association (DSV). Shortly before him, the jury had to take a longer break because the tailwind increased significantly. Even with an extended run-up and appropriate point compensation, Raimund and the other three remaining jumpers were unable to reach the top positions. Raimund made it to 16th place with 116.5 meters.
Things got even worse for tour leader Domen Prevc, who had the most difficult conditions of all athletes and only came 30th with 112 meters and will be early in tomorrow’s competition.
Paschke and Geiger with solid jumps
After solid training jumps, Pius Paschke showed a good qualification jump with a safe landing. The 119 meters was enough for safe participation in the knockout competition. “It was another good day today. We can build on that. There are currently small steps, but we’re taking them.”said Paschke in an interview on ZDF afterwards.
Karl Geiger’s form curve also continues to point upwards. After qualifying in Oberstdorf, he was now eligible to take part in the competition for the second time in a row. He reached a solid 115.5 meters. “I found today to be a very positive day. I approached each jump with extreme concentration and, especially in the second training jump, I felt something in the transition that I hadn’t felt for a long time. The qualifying jump was now a little more exciting and harder. But all in all, a good day.”said the veteran, summing up his performance.
Wellinger has to tremble for a moment
Wellinger was annoyed immediately after landing at 115 meters, waved it off and knew that it might not be enough. Of the 28 athletes following him, he should have left two more behind him. The Finn Niko Kytosaho and Marius Lindvik from Norway did the 2018 Olympic normal hill champion this favor.
This means that Wellinger can also take part in the third competition of the tour, but he did not make it into the second round at the first two stops in Germany. “I’m just having a hard time at the moment, and not just on this hill. We’re working extremely hard to find a solution, to make it easier. This flow, this lightness is just missing at the moment. I notice that straight away when I jump off, after that it’s just a fight.”was Wellinger’s analysis.
