There were already some at the airport today hundreds of cancellations and delays. For example, KLM canceled 86 return flights by the end of the afternoon. The company expects this number to increase further and “quite a lot of people” will have to spend the night around the airport.
“We do our best to get everyone into a hotel. People who arrange this themselves will be compensated later,” a KLM spokeswoman told the ANP news agency. She could not yet give an expectation for Saturday.
Winter weather is the cause
According to Schiphol, there is a combination of winter weather and an unfavorable wind direction. This means there is less track capacity. The airport recommends that travelers use the current information about their flight or contact their airline.
The KNMI has declared code yellow for almost the entire country until Sunday morning due to the expected snow and freezing wet roads.
