Frida Karlsson is at the forefront of the Tour de Ski. But shortly before the turn of the year she suffered a minor injury during training. According to her own statement, it was her own fault.
Sweden’s Frida Karlsson got a bloody nose while training for the Tour de Ski. The 26-year-old uploaded a video to Instagram showing blood coming from her nose and mouth. She blamed herself. “FK is still FK,” she wrote on the video. FK stood for Frida Karlsson.
The reason for the facial injury was a technical error. Karlsson accidentally stuck her ski pole in one of her skis instead of in the snow during a training session. The Swede fell and landed on her nose. Karlsson stopped training and received material from teammate Märta Rosenberg. National coach Stefan Thomson quickly gave the all-clear. “It’s okay, it was just a small nosebleed.”
Karlsson herself was also able to laugh about it in an interview with the TV station Viaplay when she was shown the video again.
In the fight for overall victory in the Tour de Ski, the 26-year-old only has a small chance of victory after 8 of 16 races. Karlsson is fifth, but is 187 points behind leader Jessica Diggins.
