The 2025 World Rapid and Blitz Chess Championship, held in Doha, the capital of Qatar, was completed with blitz competitions.

According to the statement of the Turkish Chess Federation, 248 athletes competed in the open category and 142 athletes in the women’s category. Grandmasters (GM) Yağız Kaan Erdoğmuş, Ediz Gürel, Mustafa Yılmaz, Emre Can, Vahap Şanal, Cem Kaan Gökerkan, international master (IM) Ekaterina Atalık and women international master (WIM) Gülenay Aydın competed in the organization.

In the open category, Yağız Kaan Erdoğmuş completed the tournament in 42nd place with 11.5 points and was among the top 50, while Ediz Gürel collected 11 points, Vahap Şanal 10 points, Mustafa Yılmaz 9 points, Emre Can 8.5 points and Cem Kaan Gökerkan collected 8 points.

In the women’s category, Ekaterina Atalık completed the championship with 7.5 points and Gülenay Aydın with 6 points.

Fethi Apaydın, President of the Turkish Chess Federation, whose views were included in the statement, congratulated the athletes and said, “This table, which reflects the development of our country in the field of chess, has once again revealed the steady rise of Turkish chess.
