“The Ferret” fights on
Jonny Clayton survives his round of 16 against Andreas Harrysson with luck and skill and is back in the World Cup quarter-finals after a 4-2 win! The Swedish debutant’s fairy tale ends today, but it absolutely didn’t have to. “Dirty Harry” was in the lead with 2:1 sets and should have won the next two rounds, but in the end he missed far too many chances. Clayton never really found his A-game today and only got an average of 92 points, but his experience was there in the crucial moments and will meet Ryan Searle in the round of the last eight!

At the crucial moment, Jonny Clayton shows his class again! In the deciding leg, the Welshman hammered 140 and 180 into the board and faced 32 left when Harrysson wasn’t even in the finishing area. The first match dart is in place and “The Ferret” is in the quarter-finals!

Andreas Harrysson now has to hold his throw in order to stay in the match. The Swede has to check 68 because Clayton is waiting for 40 and makes it 2:2 with the last dart on D4. Clayton opens the decider this time!

What’s wrong with Jonny Clayton? The Welshman finally finds the triple fields, but then hits the big 5 instead of tops and can’t check. However, Harrysson doesn’t have a counterattack ready either and so “The Ferret” on D8 destroys the 2-1 lead. The Welshman is still missing a leg!

Big show from Dirty Harry!
How spicy is that! Harrysson starts with a 180, then just goes down to 19 and throws a perfect 171. With 150 remaining, the nine is on and the Swede actually wants to play bulls-eye three times! Unfortunately, the first arrow missed, but the 50-year-old grabbed the leg a little later.

Winning the fifth round was obviously good for Jonny Clayton! Now the Welshman is playing his game here, is down to 72 after twelve darts and checks it coolly with two darts over T16 and D12 to take the lead.

Incredible! Andreas Harrysson plays a brilliant decider and has a total of four set darts on 18 and 9 after 140, 100 and 140, but the Swede misses all four and can’t believe it himself. Jonny Clayton has to get 78, only gets one arrow on Tops and drives it straight into the target.

Jonny Clayton continues to make a lot of mistakes and keeps shaking his head, but still gets through his own throw without any major problems and sends the fifth set into the decider. However, Andreas Harrysson throws it at him.

Jonny Clayton doesn’t hit the big 13 to get a finish and so Andreas Harrysson gets three set darts, all of which he misses on double 18 and double 9. “The Ferret” parks the next dart in double 16 and reduces the lead to 1:2.

What was that? Jonny Clayton actually doesn’t get a dart on doubles with 79 remaining. because he first throws a simple 3 and then a simple 1. Harrysson takes the opportunity and records his next high finish at 103 with 19, T16 and D18!

In terms of numbers, it’s not a great game so far. The tension is palpable and Ally Pally is quite quiet today. Andreas Harrysson opens the fifth set, confidently uses this advantage and checks D10 to make it 1-0.

With all his routine and all his class, Jonny Clayton plays the Decider confidently from the beginning. The Welshman misses the first two set darts, but Harrysson is far away and ultimately “The Ferret” checks on double 16 to make it 2-2.

Andreas Harrysson just keeps going and plays sensational darts here! The 50-year-old scores 261 points with just five arrows! First comes the third 180 and then he does 81 perfectly over T15 and D18. The Swede takes the third set and goes 2-1 in front!

What a finish from Jonny Clayton! The Welshman gets pressure for his 160 after a 180 from Harrysson and then takes it out beautifully across T20, T20 and D20. Clayton, who hasn’t really gotten into this match yet, also gets his fist.

Clayton now puts pressure on Harrysson’s throw and brings himself down to 43, but the Swede simply checks his 96 in a completely relaxed manner with two darts on double 18. Harrysson plays here as if a World Cup round of 16 were completely routine.

Wow! Jonny Clayton just couldn’t get anything together, now the Welshman almost lands a gigantic 167 finish! Only millimeters are missing from the bull finish. “The Ferret” then easily takes the leg over 9 and D8.

What’s suddenly going on here? After the break, both of them put a lot of effort into the board, but then had massive problems with the checkout and both missed a number of opportunities. Ultimately, Harrysson scores 5 points via 1 and D2 and holds his throw at the start of set three.

Is that good by Andreas Harrysson! The World Cup debutant has to get 149 on his own throw because Clayton is already waiting for 68 and the Swede just does that as if it were nothing! Wow! With 100 remaining, Clayton is close to securing the next leg, but Harrysson is against it! At 124, the 50-year-old checks brilliantly after 20 and T18 with a perfect finish on the bull and clenches his fist towards his box for the first time. This is the break for the Swedish underdog!

Andreas Harrysson stays cool and plays his game completely calmly. The Swede’s average is back to his usual 94 points and that’s enough to check 71 on Tops to make it 1-1.

Harrysson initially weakens when throwing! The Swede doesn’t get good scores and is forced to check 121 in the end. But that doesn’t come close and “The Ferret” certainly clears 39 points via 7 and D16 to win the set. So the first round goes to the favorite!

Jonny Clayton looks better again in his throwing leg. The Welshman quickly plays his way down to 64 and then deletes it quite easily on the 16th. Just double it twice and the score is 2-2.

Andreas Harrysson once again shows no signs of nervousness in the biggest performance of his career and marches solidly ahead in his leg. Clayton doesn’t even have a finish when the Swede is down to 8 points and can only watch as “Dirty Harry” coolly makes it 2-1.

Both find their way in quite well and are there with a perfect shot in the first leg. Harrysson fires in a 174, Clayton counters with 180. The Welshman gets a break chance on 90, but doesn’t find the bull at the end and “Dirty Harry” checks 50 points on D16 to make it 1-0.

In the meantime, the two actors have already entered the Alexandra Palace stage and started throwing in. Andreas Harrysson was a bit more precise when bulling out and can open the match straight away. Game on!

Jonny Clayton has been a bit under the radar here at this World Cup. As number five in the world with seven TV titles under his belt, the Welshman should actually be one of the favorites. But “The Ferret” hasn’t always been able to maintain the form recently that allowed him to win several major titles in his best season in 2021. In the third round, Clayton showed what he can do and prevailed 4-3 against Niels Zonneveld in a high-class duel. This means the 51-year-old can now move into his second World Cup quarter-final after 2023.

This round of 16 will be played over the “Best of 7” distance. A player must win four sets to win the match. Three legs are necessary to win a set. If it goes into a deciding set, the two-clear legs rule applies and the round must be won by two legs. Only when the score was 5:5 would there be a sudden death leg.
