René van der Gijp wants to completely change the format of Today Inside. According to him, it is time for the show to depend less on Wilfred Genee, Johan Derksen and himself. “Creating a pool.”

We have heard René van der Gijp’s characteristic laugh less often since this year in Today Inside. After the row about his marital problems with Minouche, the football analyst decided to take every Wednesday evening off. But he now thinks four days is a bit too much, because he says it is often a matter of searching for fun topics.

Squirt eleven

René does not want to act as some kind of syringe elf in VI. “I have difficulty with that at Today Inside,” he says A.D. “Look, Monday is fine. Then there has been football, Mathieu van der Poel, Max Verstappen, enough has happened. On Friday we go back to the weekend and look ahead again.”

“You sometimes have to search for Tuesdays and Thursdays. And you want to be distinctive. With Eva, in RTL Tonight and also with Jeroen Pauw you can draw it out every day: America experts about Trump, a general about the war in Ukraine, the cabinet formation and the housing shortage. Should we come up with that too?”

To assure

Cutting back a bit to keep it fresh won’t hurt, according to René. “I sometimes say that to Johan and Wilfred, who really do everything on the side. Podcasts, playing records at the weekend. That work ethic is incredible.”

He points out the age of Johan Derksen. “I sometimes worry about Johan. 76, right? Stay at home for a day if you have the flu, or have had surgery for an inguinal hernia, I think, or a week. We put Joppie Knoester or Jort Kelder there. But they feel enormously responsible for the program.”

Poultje

What should Today Inside look like if Wilfred and Johan sometimes also stay at home? “In the future we could also create a pool of about nine people. With Thomas van Groningen, for example.”

He doesn’t want to stop completely. “I was recently getting gas. There was a boy standing there with an Uber Eats box on his back, smoking a cigarette. ‘If I’m feeling bad,’ he said, ‘I’ll put on a compilation of you. Then I can get back to it.’ Look, that’s what you do it for, right?”
