James Hurrell caused a surprise at the Darts World Cup. On the sidelines of the event, the Brit revealed that he was once seriously ill.
He knocked out co-favorite Stephen Bunting in the third round of the Darts World Cup. But James Hurrell almost didn’t get that far in the sport. Because in 2017 his life was on a knife’s edge, as he reported to the English media.
He remembers having digestive problems but not wanting to see a doctor. “I didn’t go to the doctor. That’s a man’s thing. I used to go to tournaments and come back with pain in my ribs,” he told the British “Sun”. One day he vomited at night and found blood in his vomit. Finally he had himself examined.
Hurrell had an impending intestinal obstruction and required surgery. “I almost died,” he said. He missed the Lakeside World Cup back then. He said he had been unable to play darts for over two years and had lost a lot of weight. In the hospital, he and his father set goals for the time after the operation.
The organizer also addresses this topic and calls on viewers to have their risk of prostate cancer checked. Hurrell said: “My appeal to anyone with health problems: don’t be afraid to go to the doctor.”
