The Swedish brand, at the end-of-year meeting at the Volvo Studio Milan, analyzed the sales data for 2025 and confirmed its choice of electric cars and plug-in hybrids. The sedan has just arrived in Italy, while the medium SUV will be presented in Stockholm on January 21, 2026
Volvo and electric mobility: a solid relationship, which will increasingly intensify in the coming years. The Swedish brand owned by the group Geely will continue along the path of electrification of its car fleet, as also reiterated on the occasion of the end-of-year meeting organized at Volvo Studio Milanin the presence of Michele Crisci, president and CEO of Volvo Italia, e Roberto Lonardicommunications director of Volvo Italy. Even following the decision by the European Commission to review the stop on combustion cars from 2035, the Gothenburg company has no intention of going back and is thus increasingly focusing on an electrified range made up of car electric and, with a view to a complete transition, plug-in hybrids. Volvo Italia 2025 will end with 15,800 units sold, against them 21,500 in 2024. An expected decline, given the transition period and being the first real year of the Swedish company without motorized vehicles Diesel. A decision that goes against the grain, given that in the Italian market diesel still represents 65% of the premium segments. Håkan SamuelssonCEO of Volvo, is also convinced that “globalisation, as we have known it, is over”, as also recalled by Crisci himself during the evening. Tariffs and geopolitical tensions impose more local strategies, as decided in synergy with the Chinese group Geelyof which in addition to Volvo are also part Polestar And Lynk & Co.
Volvo’s strategies and new models
—
As also recalled by president Crisci during the meeting at the Volvo Studio in Milan, the objective of the Swedish company is to arrive at cars with an average CO2 emissions from 12 g/km in 2035or 10% of the current figures. For this reason, the Swedish company is increasingly focusing on the decarbonisation of company fleets and on electric motorisation, the only one growing globally in terms of sales. In 2025 the models full electric represent the 16% of Volvo’s total sales, against 5.8% of the national market, while plug-in hybrids reach 20% of the brand’s sales, compared to 6.2% of the national figure. The company is a leader in the premium electric B-SUV segment with the EX30but also among plug-in hybrid SUVs with XC60 And XC90without forgetting the XC70. Then there are the new electric cars arriving to confirm the future strategies of the Swedish brand, such as the EX60which will be unveiled in Stockholm on January 21, 2026. This is the first model equipped with an adaptive seat belt managed by artificial intelligence, with the advanced 800 Volt architecture of the innovative platform Scalable Product Architecture 3 (Spa3) which guarantees reduced charging times and superior efficiency. A point in common with the sedan ES90 (the latter is designed around the Spa2 platform) present at the end-of-year meeting at the Volvo Studio Milan and ready for its debut on the Italian market.
