One observation told Mikko Alatalo that the situation in Pate Mustajärvi is serious

Popeda legend Pate Mustajärvi slept off today on Boxing Day. The musician was sick with cancer and his concerts were canceled during the fall.

Mustajärvi was supposed to perform at the Tammela football stadium in Tampere in the summer at the Manserock event together with other musicians from Tampere, such as Mikko Alatalo, Martti Syrjä and Heikki Hela.

– I saw when Pate’s name was removed from the list of performers. I understood that now it is about something serious. Then I heard that Pate is sick, Mikko Alatalo tells Iltalehte.

Mustajärvi was 69 years old when he died.

– It would really hurt you, even though you knew that something like this was expected, Alatalo sighs.

Alatalo and Mustajärvi have both had long careers in the music world. They knew each other for decades.

– There was a big gap in Suomirokki. Pate was a really important part of manserok. On the one hand, he was a basic dunarist, on the other hand, a soul-cultured person, which was evident especially in sensitive ballads.

At the end of the 70s, Alatalo hosted the Iltatähti program in Tampere’s Särkänniemi.

– There I saw Pate and Popeda for the first time. Patella had the same striped shirt as With Alex Harvey [skotlantilainen muusikko]which Pate greatly admired. Pate walked across the stage, and then I thought, what kind of Dynamo is this?

Alatalo fondly remembers Mustajärvi’s performance at Alatalo’s 70th anniversary concert in Tampere-talo in 2022. .

– Pate joked that “you hear Alatalo, when I’ve sung it in my forties, fifties, sixties, seventies, I’ll still be singing to my eighties”. But that won’t happen now, death came first.

During the phone call, Alatalo remembers a musician who died five years ago Mika Sundqvistwho was a mutual friend of Mustajärvi and Alatalo.

– Now Mika and Pate will surely sing together on the rafters of the sauna in the sky.
