Safari Park Beekse Bergen has a new resident. A male chimpanzee has been born, which the zoo believes is of great value. The animal is threatened with extinction in the wild.

The mother and baby chimpanzee are doing well, the zoo said on Wednesday. It was still exciting. The mother has two daughters, one of whom still drinks breast milk. That can cause complications.

According to zookeeper Lieke Dingemans, the first days went well. ”The young one drinks well and is held firmly on the mother’s belly, while the older sister sits on the back. She takes excellent care of both youngsters.”

Threatened with extinction
The birth of the chimpanzee is very important. The monkey, which normally lives in the wild in West Africa, is threatened with extinction. Beekse Bergen works together with the European Management Program (EEP) to maintain a healthy reserve population of animals in zoos. This is how they protect the animal species.
