A massacre, fifteen people killed. It happened on December 14th in Australia on Bondi Beach, during a Hanukkah party. Two armed men opened fire, killing many of those present: 15, in fact. Among them was Dan Elkayam, 27, a French citizen and semi-professional footballer.

Elkayam was a defender and discovered the ball by watching Sergio Ramos, his role model and reference. One of his proudest football moments was playing for France at the 2019 Maccabi European Games, an international Jewish sports tournament. He was one of the youngest players in the team and his team had beaten England in the final.
the memory

Many people close to him spent sweet words to remember him. “He was a footballer who brought people together – said his girlfriend, Krystal Troyano – his work colleagues told me that every Monday he came to the office with so many stories to tell that it seemed he had lived a thousand lives. He was good to everyone, he didn’t care about their religion, the color of their skin or how much they earned. Since he died, our friends have come together, Catholics, Muslims, people without religion. He never made any differences.” The victim’s brother Johan then echoed her. “He was someone who tried to avoid any arguments. Even though he was so welcoming to everyone, he died because he was Jewish.”
