A police spokesperson said the driver has been tested for alcohol or drug use. “The driver appeared to be under the influence of alcohol.”
The driver is suspected of causing danger or nuisance on the road and using alcohol behind the wheel.
Injury
The driver and passenger were unable to get out of the car themselves and were helped by ambulance staff and the fire brigade. Nothing is known about their injuries, they were both taken to hospital for evaluation.
The lamppost and road surface were damaged by the accident. The road was therefore closed for a while last night. The road is now open again.
