“Children play with small grenades”: ten minors lose a hand or arm due to illegal fireworks in the Netherlands

Although New Year’s Eve has yet to come, the Dutch Association for Hand Surgery is already reporting a striking increase in serious fireworks injuries. This year, ten minors lost a hand or arm due to illegal fireworks, twice as many as last year. The declining age of the victims is particularly worrying: the average age has fallen from 23 to 13 in five years.
