Martin Schindler was able to clear the opening hurdle at the Darts World Cup without any major problems. “The Wall” didn’t show any weakness in his second game either.
A 3-1 win over Englishman Stephen Burton last Wednesday secured Martin Schindler’s place in the second round of the Darts World Cup. There, Germany’s number one met Irishman Keane Barry on Sunday evening and made it into the round of 16 perfect. Schindler defeated his opponent 3-0.
But Barry didn’t make it easy for Schindler in any of the three sentences. The 23-year-old forced his six-year-old opponent into a deciding leg three times. In each of these “deciders,” however, “Dynamite” ultimately came up short.
After Ricardo Pietreczko, Schindler is now the second German to reach the third round of this year’s World Championships. His next opponent has already been determined. After the Christmas holidays, “The Wall” will face Englishman Ryan Searle.
Martin Schindler – Keane Barry 3:0 (3:2, 3:2, 3:2)
3rd set, 5th leg – 72 remaining points for Barry, 76 for Schindler. But the Irishman makes a crucial mistake. He first hits 16, has to hit 16 again to get a set dart for double 20. But his second arrow hits the first and bounces away. Extremely bitter for “Dynamite”, who then hits 16 with his third arrow. But that doesn’t help anymore. Schindler is there, puts his first arrow into the triple 20 and has two darts to win the match. The first lands next to the double 8, the second finds its target. This is the third set win for “The Wall” and thus also the victory in this game. Germany’s number one is in the 3rd round.
3rd set, 4th leg – “The Wall” initially only scored 57 points for the first three arrows. But then there are 140, 125 and 119. There are still 60 points left. Schindler checks them confidently via the 20 and the double 20. Another equalizer that leads to the third decisive leg of the evening.
3rd set, 3rd leg – Next 180 from Barry. “Dynamite” definitely doesn’t give up here. However, Schindler almost manages to achieve the high finish. At 170 points he hits the triple-20 twice and has one dart for the bullseye. But he throws just wide. Barry checks his 24 points on double 20.
3rd set, 2nd leg – Good scoring now from Schindler, who started with 140 points and followed up with 100. But Barry also plays big, throwing his second 180 of the evening. But he doesn’t get the leg with it. Because Schindler wipes his 70 points off the board via the triple 15, 5 and double 10.
3rd set, 1st leg – Does Schindler make everything clear in the third set? Barry has the throw again and can use it to his advantage. He faces double 20, but ends up checking out on 20, 10 and double 5. The Irishman takes the lead again.
