First day back in the men’s Super League championship. After Piacenza’s advance, Trento takes the lead with Perugia (involved in the Club World Cup) with a clear victory in Padua. Civitanova wins clearly in Cuneo and Modena beats Cisterna, overtaking Piacenza in the standings. Trento suffers in the second set, with Padova stubbornly canceling two set points, but then Itas uses its power in attack and on serve to achieve a full success which allows it to continue its lead. Faure and Michieletto were Itas’ points of reference in moments of difficulty, but Ramon’s shifts in service also created problems for the Paduan reception. LaSonepar fought hard in the second and third sets where she remained close to her opponents, only giving in at the end when she made a few too many mistakes.

The first day back gives Civitanova its first away success of the regular season. A winning run in just over an hour by Medei’s team, which ruled with the maximum margin a not very combative Cuneo, which only in the first set held the point-to-point with its opponents, then clearly giving in to the block-defense and service correlation of the Marche players which undermined the Piedmontese’s level. Loeppky and Gargiulo were the leaders of a Lube team that found Nikolovincisivo at bat again after the stop due to disqualification. The usual Feral in double figures wasn’t enough for Cuneo to withstand the blow.

Cisterna was buried under 18 aces by Modena, who built a victory with the serve that helped launch the Emilians to fourth place in the standings. The second consecutive match in the Marche region gives Allianz more points and this time a clear success at the expense of a Yuasa Battery which does not break the deadlock and remains at the bottom of the standings. Caneschi’s extraordinary service performance, together with Reggers’ regularity in attack and from nine meters, leaves little room for Grottazzolina who fights on equal terms until the end in the second set, only to then give in abruptly in the third. It is precisely the serve that tips the scales towards Milan, which is fundamental in allowing Piazza’s sextet to keep control of the match in the first and third sets.
