State Secretary Jean Rummenie (Agriculture, Fisheries, Food Security and Nature) issued a temporary tolerance decision for Schiphol national airport on Friday, December 19, 2025. The reason for this is the annulment of the current nature permit by the judge earlier this year.

The judge has ordered the ministry to repair the permit with a restoration decision or to issue a new permit. Because the permit has been annulled, Schiphol Airport is operating without a valid nature permit.

“This tolerance decision provides clarity for Schiphol, local residents and other stakeholders,” says State Secretary Rummenie. “It is very undesirable for our national airport to operate without a nature permit. The tolerance decision gives us time to arrive at a well-founded and careful recovery decision or new permit.”
